I came back home last month after 9 months on the road…and here I am looking for my next destination for later this month 😃
As a digital nomad, I often get asked how I decide where to for work and pleasure.
So what really makes a place ‘digital nomad worthy’?
Having worked remotely and lived the digital nomad lifestyle for the past year and 9 months, I can confirm that in order to run a remote business productively, the 2 crucial things that any city MUST HAVE are:
🔴Reliable Internet 📶
and
🔴Easily available short-term accommodation 🛌
These are not negotiable. No matter how nice it would be to live beachfront in a hut on a small Thai or Cambodian island, whatever floats your boat (pun intended), you won’t be able to run a business from there.
The following are not essential but are definitely good to have:
🔵Access to Coworking Spaces – serve as an opportunity to meet and connect with other people. Having an alternative workspace to resort to if I run into any issues with the internet connection at my accommodation is a big plus as well.
🔵Travel Locations nearby – when I’m not working, I want to make sure I am maximising the opportunity for travel
🔵Good Social Life – making new friends, with locals and other digital nomads
